Counselling

We all encounter difficulties in life where we need the support and input from others.  Our counsellors are all mature, experienced, tertiary-trained people, who have negotiated the difficulties of maintaining relationships, raising children, experienced grief and loss, and walked beside others in similar situations.  We offer assistance in the areas of individual, couple and family counselling, including child and adolescent problems.  We can offer help with areas such as depression, anxiety, emotional trauma, family and relationship breakdown, and support with life changes.

It is entirely your choice whether your counsellor addresses spiritual issues with you.  You will be asked your preference when you attend.

You will normally see one counsellor, unless a number of family members are involved, in which case 2 counsellors may see the family, and may break into separate groups to ensure the issues of each person are addressed.  Sessions are 50 minutes to 1 hour in length.

All counselling is confidential.  However, any disclosures of abuse or risk of harm to self or others, must be reported according to legal requirements.

As we are only available on a part-time basis, we cannot assist those at risk of self-harm or harm to others, or who need more than weekly or fortnightly support, according to availability of appointments.  If these issues become evident during the course of counselling, every effort will be made to refer to a more appropriate agency.

If an outside agency has referred you, it is our professional courtesy to acknowledge your attendance to them, unless you specifically request us not to do so.  Any written reports will be charged a fee based on the time involved.  We do not provide court reports.

Children and young people under the age of 16 years must have written parental consent to attend.
